Award Description

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.

Mountain Leader Assessment Course Apex Training has been providing Mountain Leader courses for over 20 years and is based in the Lake District which allows us to spend as much time in the superb Lakeland fells as possible. The courses are residential (from the night before the course starts) self-catering, using modern bunkhouse style accommodation with good facilities/Wi-Fi etc. Our staff have all been through the Mountain Leader scheme and are now highly qualified Mountaineering Instructors (MIC or MIA) with many years delivering Mountain Leader Courses and working in the outdoor industry. The assessment will cover the syllabus as laid out by Mountain Training http://www.mountain-training.org/walking/skills-and-awards/mountain-leader and includes a 3 day (2 night) expedition. Dates include the arrival day (accommodation available), the course starts the following morning. Discounts for Scout Association members.
