Award Description
The Hill & Mountain Skills scheme is a great way to develop your personal skills and confidence in all elements of hill and mountain walking. From planning a coastal walk to navigating in complex terrain, these courses are an ideal opportunity to learn the basics and enjoy the countryside. THIS IS NOT THE HILL AND MOORLAND LEADER SCHEME.
Northumberland National Park in north east England provides the perfect location for you to undertake the Hill Skills course. The Cheviot Hills are remote, but very accessible with lots of good walking routes to test and develop your hill walking skills. Your course tutor, Patrick Norris knows this landscape well and with several years of training experience in the outdoor environment, you will at the end of the weekend have the skills to develop and enjoy your hill walking adventures in the years ahead. We begin the course on Saturday morning in The Cheviot Centre in Wooler. The Saturday afternoon and the whole of the second day will be spent walking, developing and learning new skills in the northern Cheviots of Northumberland National Park. The nearest train station is at Berwick upon Tweed, but please note there is no bus service on a Sunday between Wooler and Berwick. Wooler, a small market town on the very edge of the National Park has plenty of accommodation, from youth hostels to some excellent hotels and B&Bs. I look forward to welcoming you on to your Hill Skills course in Northumberland in 2018.
