Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
This is a 6 day course. The course starts on the Monday at 11 am and and finishes at 4.30 pm on the Saturday. The residential cost of £385 includes self catering bunkhouse accommodation in the NW Lakes area. Friday/Satuday will be the expedition where we will camp wild in the mountains. There is a non residential course fee of £325 for those who live locally in e.g. Cumbria, or who are camper van dwellers etc; or if you wish to stay in more salubrious accommodation with room service etc; The course will be based in the nice and quiet, NW Lake District. The course is on a residential self catering basis. We are using the Felldyke Bunkhouse at Lamplugh just south of Cockermouth. Opportunities exist to come and stay on the Sunday evening prior to the start of the course. One day of the course is specifically targeted at the skills required on steep ground. On that day we will wear helmets when necessary and focus on the use of the rope. A rope and helmet can be loaned to you if needed. The course is running - even with only 3 booked so far.
