Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead walking groups in winter conditions in the mountains. The use of crampons and axes is covered in the scheme. It builds on the skills acquired in the Mountain Leader qualification, which candidates must hold to access the Winter Mountain Leader scheme.

For Winter 2026 we are basing our courses from Aviemore, were we meet each morning will depend on the venue for the day.
There will be at least 3 MTA approved preparation courses earlier in the winter if that is of help to candidates.
