Meeting spot: Raymond Priestly Centre, Torver, Coniston.
This workshop will look at the generic activity of Gorge walking/Ghyll scrambling using Church Beck to highlight the equipment, skills and competencies of those engaged in delivering these activities. Water levels and time allowing, we hope to look at the middle section descent as well.
Then back to the centre for lunch and an in depth review of the morning with a focus on safety management, instructor competence, sign off considerations, risk assessments and a look at previous gorge incidents and lessons learned.
This workshop will be delivered by Pete Carter and Will Reed.
Pete, who holds WMCI, CIC and BCU L4 coach and has led gorge/ghyll activities all over the Lakes and also in Wales and Scotland as well as acting as a Technical Adviser to a handful of providers.
Will, who holds MCI/WML and Advanced white water safety and rescue, has been running gorge sessions for 15 years, currently acting as Technical Adviser for Raymond Priestly Centre and has significant experience in Church Beck.
