Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
Mountain Leader (ML) Assessment – Split Course Format
Location: Yr Hafod (ScoutsCymru Mountain Training Centre, Nant Ffrancon)
Our Mountain Leader Assessment runs across two weekends, making it ideal for those unable to commit to a full week due to work or other mid-week commitments.
Arrival and Accommodation
We recommend arriving the evening before the course begins. The centre will be open from 7:30pm for arrivals.
Participants will be leaving and returning to the centre each day when undertaking daytime training.
Residential Option: All meals are provided, except during the expedition phase, where you will need to supply your own food.
Course Dates
Weekend 1: 5, 6 September
Weekend 2: 18, 19, 20 September
Please note: Attendance on both weekends is required to complete the course.
