Online Session: Ticks - WARNING this session will make you itch!

Did you know Ticks are Arachnids the same as spiders, scorpions and daddy-long-legs!

Did you known Ticks have been around for 100 million years!

Did you know there are 20 species of Ticks in the UK!

Did you know in the Russian city of Ufa there is/was (sometimes it’s stolen) a monument to the Tick with the inscription: "Same as you I also want to live"!

WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES

This session will look at the phylogeny, biology and ecology of UK and European tick species, as well as the risk they pose, the diseases they carry and how we are advised to protect ourselves.

By the end of the session you will have:

- Been introduced to the evolution and classification of Ticks;

- Expanded your understanding of the Tick lifecycle and the environments in which they inhabit;

- Learnt about the disease that Ticks carry, including the signs and symptoms in humans;

- Understand the measures we can take to protect ourselves.

ONLINE SESSION

This online session will take place via Zoom,  MS Teams or Googlemeet.

Once signed up a meeting link will be sent out 2 weeks prior to the event.

WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS

This online session is devloped from my own personal wondering about ticks. I run DofE expeditions, volunteer for the Scouts and run First Aid sessions and it’s a subject that illicits a lot of grimacing. But I thought, hey knowledge is power etc., so let’s find out more… Hopefully will be of interest to anyone who ventures out-of-doors.
