WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
In adventure walking, an incident is an unexpected event that disrupts the planned activity or experience, potentially causing harm, injury, or even posing a risk to participants. These incidents can range from minor inconveniences to serious emergencies and require appropriate management and responses. This event free for MTA members is a peer led activity where there will be opportunities to discuss incident management and put ideas into practice within a lowland environment.
The outline to the day is how to manage risks whilst completing a six miles walk utilising the OS 1:25,000 map - see equipment/kit required section below for details.
The route includes passing a couple of unique features (worth coming on this event just to see these!), a Right of Way (RoW) diversion, a Right of Way on the map but not on the ground - we will use the new feature on OS Maps App to report this. We examine that Rights of Way at times are not accurately recorded and represented on the map and how do we cope with this. Also, crossing main A-roads and how to to follow these safely to connect with the RoW system. Finally, we discuss the advantages of completing a ‘recce’ to aid in the development of a risk assessment.
This event will be a great opportunity to refresh and enhance skills. Whether you are qualified or working towards an assessment, this promises to be a great session to practise and share expertise.
As always-networking/social aspect important.
If you book, please commit to attending, if you are unable to attend, please cancel your space as soon as possible to enable others to book and if something comes up last minute, be courteous and get in touch to let us know.
Important information: The A6006 will be closed from Monday 6th October 2025 until Monday 20th July 2026 due to the replacement of a railway bridge near Sutton Bonington.
