Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required for instruction of mountaineering, both summer and winter, including snow, ice and rock climbing. It builds on the skills acquired in both the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor, and Winter Mountain Leader qualifications; both of which candidates must hold to access the scheme. The Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor is an extensively used professional qualification.
This qualification was previously called the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate (MIC).
Run by Plas y Brenin with some of the UK's most experienced and knowledgable instructors. Course fee includes comfy en-suite hotel accommodation, all meals, equipment hire (if you need it), use of facilities (e.g. pool, drying room, free WiFi etc.) and tea and cakes when you get in each day. Course is based from HF Holidays House Alltshellach, just 12 miles from Fort William. Free pick up and drop off from Ballachulish Bridge also available.
