Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.

Day 1
|
Introductions, method of assessment. Equipment to carry for a day walk, management of incidents, navigation, stream crossings. |
Discussion of home papers. |
Day 2
|
Mountain day including management of groups on steep ground and emergency rope work. |
Preparation for expedition including route planning. |
Day 3
|
Expedition focusing on navigation, leadership skills and camp craft. |
Night navigation as required. |
Day 4
|
Expedition focusing on navigation, leadership skills and camp craft. |
Night navigation as required. |
Day 5
|
Return from expedition, results, group debrief and individual debriefs. |
Course close 5pm. |
Maximum ratio 1:4 every day. Candidates to work with two different assessors during the week.
