Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. The scheme does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.
This is the new award replacing the Climbing Wall Award. The award ( once you have passed assessment ) allows you to instruct, teach and coach ( Not leading ) on climbing walls within the UK.
The course will be delivered by Mark (Baggy) Richards. Mark has an extensive background of climbing and mountaineering both professional and personal. He holds the MIC award and has been involved in teaching climbing for over 30 years both indoors and outdoors. Also a current course director of the RIC ( Rock Climbing Instructor Award ) alongside offering technical advice for a variety of climbing walls he brings a wealth of knowledge to CWI courses.
Mark is still a current climbing instructor working with groups on a regular basis and is the co -author of the latest Winter Climbing guide to North Wales.
