Award Description

The Hill & Mountain Skills scheme is a great way to develop your personal skills and confidence in all elements of hill and mountain walking. From planning a coastal walk to navigating in complex terrain, these courses are an ideal opportunity to learn the basics and enjoy the countryside. THIS IS NOT THE HILL AND MOORLAND LEADER SCHEME.

About

Based at Patterdale in the eastern Lake District, this 2-day course is ideal for hill-walkers who wish to move their skills from valleys and hills to fells and mountains to enhance their enjoyment of mountain walking. Practically based in small groups, our courses are sociable, enjoyable and informative. Learn how to plan walks, understand maps and contours, use a compass (bearings), deal with steep ground, essential kit, weather forecasts, emergency procedures, all of this whilst gaining a valuable understanding of the mountain environment. Our walks will take in classic mountains such as Fairfield, Place Fell, St Sunday Crag and Cofa Pike. We provide waterproof clothing (except boots), maps, compass, course notes and 2 full-days in the Lake District. The course starts at 9am on Day One, and finish no later than 5pm on Day Two. Please provide your own food, travel & accommodation. We base our courses in villages with a range of places to stay from campsites to Youth Hostels, B&Bs and hotels. Course tutor: Mark Reid, author of 'The Inn Way' guidebooks and Mountain Leader Website: www.teamwalking.co.uk
