Award Description

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to supervise climbers on purpose built artificial climbing walls and boulders. The scheme does not include the skills and techniques required to teach lead climbing.

This Climbing Wall Instructor assessment course will be Directed by Jon Chamberlain, a highly experienced Mountaineering Instructor (MIA) and climbing Development Coach. It will be based in the North East of England at one of the regions premier climbing walls.

Climbing Wall Instructor  assessment course aims to assess the technical skills, judgements and areas of knowledge deemed necessary to ensure an individual is safe to do so. This is a one day course.

Prerequisites for the Climbing Wall Instructor assessment course

Before you book onto a Climbing Wall Instructor assessment course, make sure you have done the

Following:

• You must be at least 18 years old
• You must have attended a Climbing Wall Instructor training course (or have been granted

   exemption)

• You must be familiar with the syllabus
• You must have logged a minimum of 30 visits to at least three different climbing walls
• You must have assisted in the supervision of at least 15 instructed sessions on at least two different

   walls including a large public facility in a variety of contexts

• You must hold a current first aid certificate, minimum 8 hours and relevant to your work as a

  Climbing Wall Instructor

Prerequisites for the Climbing Wall Instructor Abseil module assessment

You must have attended a Climbing Wall Instructor training course and passed the Climbing Wall Instructor assessment before going onto the Abseil module assessment.

Digital logbook

Please ensure you have entered your minimum prerequisites in your digital logbook at the time of confirming your place on the training course.

Courses run over one day, with a minimum contact time of 6 hours. They typically start at 9.45am and finish at c.4.00pm. It is non-residential.

Costs do not include climbing wall entry fees.
