Day 1
Avalanche avoidance, awareness and skills
Avalanche report analysis (Meteo France)
-Google translate: how good is it?
-Key words translated using 2 bilingual mountaineers English/French & French/English(TBC)
-Analysis of the rose
-Importance of history and local knowledge
Day on the ground with sessions on
-transceiver checks (start of day, range and group)
-route choice
-terrain traps
-snow profiles for education
-slope angle estimation
-transceiver searches
-teaching use of TPS to clients
-probe line search
Evening Lecture on different types of avalanches
Day 2
Quality Mountin day / more winter IML skills
Planning (maps, distances, snow history, slopes, weather, local knowledge etc)
Daily and dynamic risk assessments
Winter belays/problem solving
Kicking/cutting steps
Day 3
Navigation / Cold weather injuries / Rescue services
A day on snow shoes close to the ski area of Mont D’Olme.
Feature recognition and detail in navigation.
Cold weather injury prevention/treatment/advise from an A&E nurse. To be run as a sharing session with swapping of real life experiences experiences. Looking at best practice and learning from past experiences in an open discussion.
Information sessions with the PDHM and Ski patrols with the opportunity to ask questions and learn how we can aid them if a rescue is needed and how we can facilitate.
