About Leader's landscape training:

Landscape is our support system without which we could not exist.

Everyone depends on landscape for food, water, fuel and clean air.

A beautiful and diverse landscape with a wealth of wildlife and human history inspires and enriches our lives and provides a ‘natural health service’ for mind and body. But our fragile landscapes are under threat as never before, not least from climate change, and our challenge is to understand, support and enhance them.

Leader’s Landscape Training is aimed at outdoor practitioners to help deepen your understanding of Cumbria’s landscapes and enable you to pass on your new-found knowledge to those with whom you work.

Workshop detail:

The Langdale valley receives a huge amount of pressure from visitors each year, which needs to be managed in order to keep it such a special place.

The landscape is spectacular, but also incorporates a tremendous variety of archaeology. Richard Fox, Fix the Fells Ranger will lead you on a walk to discuss the implications of so many visitors, a changing climate and the various management techniques that have been developed to ensure the landscape is protected for future generations.

No one person believes they damage the landscape by walking / running / cycling, but collectively, we clearly do. It ought to be a collective responsibility to manage the issue as there is no statutory funding for this. However, Fix the Fells, a very small organisation, carries out fund raising, awareness raising and repair work. Come and learn how everyone can help

Meeting point:

Meet in the Stickle Barn car park, Langdale and then share to the Old Dungeon Ghyll, to limit the cars there.

What to bring:

A picnic lunch & clothing/footwear for all weathers. (Please note there is no indoor backup venue so the sessions will go ahead in poor weather unless unreasonable or unsafe to do so)
