This session will explore potential teaching and learning considerations within the walking schemes and how our approach needs to change as we move candidates from being dependant towards independence.

Workshop facilitator Paul Smith’s interest in the teaching and learning process began when attending his first Mountain Training course in 1997. With a successful completion of a PGCE at Bangor University in 2001, Paul worked in secondary education until 2014.
Paul now works as a multi-disciplined adventure sports coach and coach educator. Paul has been working on Mountain Training courses since 2002 and became a course provider in his own right in 2006. Paul provides the full spectrum of climbing awards from Indoor Climbing Assistant to Rock Climbing Development Instructor, as well as the Foundation and Development Coach schemes.
