The Hill & Mountain Skills scheme is a great way to develop your personal skills and confidence in all elements of hill and mountain walking. From planning a coastal walk to navigating in complex terrain, these courses are an ideal opportunity to learn the basics and enjoy the countryside. THIS IS NOT THE HILL AND MOORLAND LEADER SCHEME.
This 5 day version of the Mountain Skills course is run by some of the UK's most experienced and knowledgable instructors. The course is for people who have done some hillwalking, but probably not at higher levels or away from paths, and now you want to increase and develop your skills, and build the confidence to tackle more challenging terrain. This five day course, with a two day expedition and overnight camp, covers the skills of summer hillwalking for the British and Irish mountains. It's the ideal next step to move you up a level. You'll develop the necessary techniques of navigation, route finding, expedition camping, basic ropework and hazard awareness you need to look after yourself, and your friends or family in the mountains. The course only fee includes your course plus equipment hire (if you need it), use of facilities (e.g. climbing wall, drying rooms, free WiFi etc.) and tea and cakes when you get in each day. The residential course fee includes all the above plus comfy en-suite accommodation and all your meals. Free pick up and drop off from Llandudno Junction Train Station also available at the start and end of your course.
