We all navigate confidently (usually!) at 1:25k. But as you know, ML syllabus expects you to be just as efficient at other scales. Typically this will be 1:50k, but there are other scales; Harvey at 1:40 with those tricky 15m contours; 1:10k, which you have to order; maybe someone has an old 1 inch map they'd like to try.
So this is a peer-led navigation day. Come along with any Kinder maps you may have at unusual scales, and have a good deal of fun getting lost and found again.
Your convenor for the day will be Stephen Jones, Regional Co-ordinator for the Peak.
We meet at 11 am at the roadside parking area at Nether Booth, where the main road meets the access track to YHA Edale. Kit for a June moorland day, please, with your own food and personal first aid kit, and clothing appropriate for the anticipated weather conditions. Bring maps at strange scales (if you have any), and compass too. GPS sometimes helps - not to cheat with (we wouldn't do that, would we?), but to check you've got to where you think you have!
As with all peer-led events, participants are responsible for their own safety.
