Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
6 day Mountain Leader training course.
Candidates must be registered with the Mountain Leader scheme and meet the pre course experience requirements.
The course will be based at Caban Cysgu Bunkhouse where accommodation is available at £18 a night (booked seperately) - you can also arrange your own accommodation anywhere. There will be a one night expedition during the course, usually on day 5.
The course will be delivered by myself (WMCI) and Nick Read (MCI, WML, IML)
I have over 30 years mountain walking experience and have been a Mountain Leader since 1997. I was an RAF Mountain Rescue Team Leader and Chief Instructor. I continue to lead and instruct groups and individuals on mountain walks, scrambles and climbs.
Nick is a very experienced mountain leader, Mountaineering Instructor and every year leads expeditions throughout the world - as well as instructing mountaineering here in Snowdonia. He is also an active team member on the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team
