Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
This is a split (long weekend) course. Friday/Sat/Sun twice with a weekend off in between.
Fridays start at 10 am so the full 3 days is needed. We finish the weekends at 4.30 pm
The course is normally based on the Derwentwater Independent Hostel which used to be run by the YHA for years but is now not open till 17th May due to the lock down.
Candidates need to arrange their own self contained accommodation, so they can access the course, this is permitted from 12th April as the lockdown lifts.
We will meet near Braithwaite at an outdoor venue to start the course.
The course inludes a wild camp as part of a two day expedition on 'weekend 2'
Candidates will need to register for the ML Award with Mountain Training, create an account and a Dlog of mountain experience which includes a minimum of 20 Quality Mountain Days. This needs to be logged before booking and is our way of ensuring that those who access this course are experienced in the hills and ready and able to undertake a course which is focused on LEADERSHIP.
