Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
The Summer Mountain Leader run by Leading Edge is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader. Mountain Leaders operate the length and breadth of the country with all sorts of groups of people; from scouts and schoolchildren to outdoor instructors and those that have retired. The award is what you make it and there are countless opportunities for passionate Mountain Leaders. Leading edge offer a relaxed, open and friendly course, progressivally taking you through the key group management, navigation and environmental elements. We will help you develop, hone and polish your personal skills, all the time imparting teaching and coaching techniques you can use when working with others. You will leave inspired, motivated and with a personal action plan of what you need to do before coming forward for assessment. We will meet at Petes Eats Cafe on the first morning where we will start the course with an informal chat and an outline of the Mountain Leader Award Scheme, and then out into the mountains.
