This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
Our ethos is to run fun, friendly and relaxed courses helping people develop into knowledgeable and confident Mountain Leaders - even if you're on assessment! We've worked our way through the Mountain Training qualifications and know how strressful assessments can be; we aim to minimise unneccesary extra stress and create a supportive atmosphere so you can perform at your best.
Make 2019 the year you take the final step to becoming a qualified Mountain Leader with us here in Llanberis, Snowdonia National Park.
I work on the majority of courses, but you'll also benefit from the input of other carefully selected staff members. Our ethos for Mountain Training courses is not only to use the most highly qualified and experienced people, but instructors who are still relevant and active freelancers doing the work of the award scheme that they are delivering. Additionally all our staff are members of AMI and MTA, undertake Continuing Professional Development, share our passion for doing the best job in the world and are super friendly : )
All our courses are based out of Basecamp Coffi (still under development!) in Llanberis. We have a quiet, private space for Mountain Independence where we run morning meetings and evening lectures; equipped with top facilities for weather briefings, presentations and resources.
With tea and coffee included in the package; finishing each day with a slice of cake is just the icing on the, well....
