Award Description

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.

Adventure Expertise are a small team of mountaineering instructors who are passionate about the courses we deliver and committed to setting the standards for training and assessment courses. Inspiring others and giving our clients the skills to independently make the most out of the mountains is what drives us.

We're proud of our reputation for providing great courses and looking after people in a relaxed and professional way. Many people on our courses come by recommendation which is something we're really grateful for and proud of - it's the acid test of us delivering what we aim for! Assessments for us are all about setting an atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome and able to perform at their best with the minimum of stress. We know assessments are a challenge - we've been there! so we work hard to ensure you get the best out of yourself when it matters, making the assessment experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.     

Bursary Funding Available

Our sister company Adventure Expeditions is a not-for-profit company with year-end ‘profits’ being used to meet one of its core aims: to help widen participation in outdoor activities.

As part of this bursary programme applications are welcomed from staff at non-fee-paying schools and volunteer leaders who wish to attend an NGB qualification where the main purpose of undertaking this is to lead young people in the outdoors. Support from AE bursaries is given towards Mountain Leader courses in the form of:

A £150 contribution towards Mountain Leader course fees, to help train/assess leaders so they can lead outdoor activity programmes/courses/expeditions for young people in the future.

To be eligible for this bursary funding you have to either be currently working in a non-fee-paying school or working voluntarily, delivering outdoor activities to young people (or have the intention to do so upon completion of the award).

Please email us and we’ll provide you with a short application form – return this and, if we can grant the funding, we will provide you with a code allowing you to book online with a £150 discount.
