Nature of Snowdonia - Birds in the Mountains workshops with author Mike Raine
This years' Birds in the Mountians will see Julian Hughes of the Welsh Ornithological Society joining us to share his specialist knowledge on upland birds. It will be a real treat to have his expert input as we travel from the valley base, through several distinct habitats above Capel Curig.
These workshops are primarily aimed at Mountain Leaders and Instructors or trainees working towards those awards. Anyone working outside with, or leading, groups in the hills or mountains of the UK should however, find these workshops of interest. We generally attract a like-minded keen group of people who get along with each other giving the day a fun feeling in which to learn.
Whilst the workshops are themed seasonally we will respond to whatever the environment and weather throw at us on the day of the workshop. Key topics for the day might include;
Identifying and remembering flowers
Recognising the birds in the mountains
Mindblowing geology
Reading the landscape
Features of glaciation
Human impact on the upland environment
You will need to dress for the weather and expect to be 'on the hill' for about six hours. Bring a packed lunch. You will find a digital camera and/or a smart phone, pen/pencil and notebook handy too.
We will also consider ways of inspiring and educating others
