Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
Weekend 1. – second May Bank Holiday weekend (22 - 25 May 2020)
This weekend will be spent in Wales using bunkhouse accommodation. Techniques and practical exercises in leadership, navigation, emergency procedures, hazards under differing conditions are the main topics covered. Accommodation is for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. The course commences at 9am on Saturday and finishes at 4pm Monday. Meals are provided except lunches.
The weekend will be spent in the Lake District. Please note that this session commences at 9am on morning and finishes at 4pm on Sunday. Accommodation will be included for Thursday night then you will be self-catering in tents on the hill for 2 nights. Instruction in leadership, navigation, expedition work and mountaineering skills will be covered.
