Award Description

The Lowland Leader qualification has been designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks in lowland countryside and woodland in summer conditions. The majority of the UK and Ireland is made up of this type of terrain so you'll never be short of places to go walking.

About

This will be a 'blended' assessment course comprising:

A Home Paper to assess theoretical knowledge, which will take approximately 2 hours to complete. The Home Paper will be issued 2 weeks before the start date and must be submitted before the start date.

A 2-hour online introductory meeting, 18:00-20:00 on Thursday 5th August on Microsoft Teams. All candidates must attend and take part, with video switched on.

two full days out in countryside areas near to the City of Edinburgh, 09:00-18:00 each day, on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th August. Candidates will be informed of meeting locations during the Teams meeting. Please let us know what transport options you have, when making your booking.

The course will only go ahead in Protection Levels 0, 1 or 2. If we are moved into a higher protection level the course would be cancelled and full refunds provided.

Terms and Conditions

Cancellations: You must give us notice as soon as you wish to withdraw from a course. A 50% refund will be provided if at least 2 days' notice is provided.

You may not attend the course if you have symptoms of coronavirus, or if you have tested positive, or if you have been asked to self-isolate or quarantine. Cancellations directly and unexpectedly caused by Covid-19 will be refunded in full regardless of the amount of notice provided.

It is your responsibility to understand and complete the pre-requisites for your course. If you are unable to complete them you should cancel as per point 1 above.

If you are unprepared for the course or do not arrive on time, you will not be allowed to take part and no refund will be offered.

We will endeavour to run the course on the advertised dates, but in some cases we may have to cancel or postpone courses e.g. due to staff illness or insufficient candidates. If we cancel the course we will offer you a postponed date or refund you in full.

Due to time constraints, training and assessment courses will not always cover every item on the syllabus. Candidates are responsible for their own learning and the course handbook is a suggested starting point.
