Award Description
Our Rock Skills courses are designed to provide structured training opportunities for people who want to learn more and become independent climbers. There are three different levels so that complete beginners and those with more experience can choose the most appropriate starting point.
This course is specifically for women from a minority background.
The course has been subsidised by Mountain Training in in order to remove as many barriers as possible. Each place is subsidised by £100, reducing the price that participants pay to £80.
I am delivering this as a women-only course specifically for those from a minority background in order to encourage and enable these women to access skills training and outdoor participation that they wouldn't usually pursue.
The main aims of this 2 day course are to learn how to be a safe outdoor climber, how to second outdoor rock routes competently and how to belay a lead climber. You will develop your climbing movement skills and learn how to place protection and construct belays.
CLIMBING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Have attended a Rock Skills Introduction course OR have logged 10 routes on walls or outdoor crags; and have logged 10 belays of a fellow climber.
Minimum age: 12
(Note: under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)
Course meeting point: Keswick
Course timings: 9am – 5pm
Travel logistics: I encourage people to car share or use public transport if possible, in order to make the course accessible and minimise our environmental impact. We will share cars to a local crag, there are good train links to Penrith, and buses in to Keswick. Please inform me when booking if you are planning on using public transport.
My courses are always catered to you. They are relaxed, fun and involve as much climbing and learning as possible! Bespoke dates are available on request.
