This workshop is for Full AMI members only.  It will cover the role of the Technical Adviser (TA) in a broad remit to include activity centres and staff, ropes courses, climbing walls, as well as for hillwalking, mountaineering, gorge & ghyll scrambling.

The role of the TA in advising business owners and centre managers in heloing them discharge their responsibilities under various legislation is not well understood.  These issues will be explored to ensure colleagues provide good advice and supply accurate and relevant information. 

The workshop will include assessing competence of staff involved in activity delivery, of writing statements of competence following an assessment by the TA, helping the provider draft suitable operating procedures and risk assessments and staff competency levels.

We'll also try to include any specific requests from colleagues attending the workshop.  Case studies will be used to explore issues as the day develops.

The workshop will be delivered by Joby Maw Davis (Winter MCI) and Pete Stacey (MCI and IML).  We have delivered a number of these workshops in 2018 and 2019 and also ran workshops at past AMI AGMs; Pete has also presented similar workshops for BAIML members at their AGMs.  Pete has also presented at both the ABC Walls Conference and the Mountaineering Ireland Walls Conference in 2019.

Joby has a wealth of experience as one of the UK's busiest TAs for climbing walls and for activity centres.

Pete is an inspector for the Adventuremark and Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge schemes, and has been a Freelance inspector for AALS for over 10 years.  He is a TA for a number of ropes courses, climbing walls and activity providers.  He is listed on the BMC expert witness register for civil and criminal litigation and is an associate member of the Institute of Expert Witnesses.

Both are part of the NICAS Technical Expert Team and offer a range of Mountain Training Courses
