Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
This is a split weekend course. Two blocks of 3 days.
We meet at 10 am on both weekends on the Fridays. We depart at the latest 4.30 pm on the Sundays.
On weekend two there is a two day and one overnight camping expedition.
Candidates are reminded that they must meet the required standard for participation on the course i.e. with a log of at least 20 QMD's. There is a definition of a Quality Mountain Day.

Rough Programme: Specific syllabus content is added each day.
Day 1: Introductions/setting the scene. Hill walk leadership & wayfinding. Ropes and knots.
Day 2: Mountain Day
Day 3: Security on steep ground
Day 4: Water Hazards. Further training relative to personal Development Plans. Expedition planning.
Day 5 Expedition including a wild camp and night navigation.
Day 6: Expedition continues. Debriefs & Feedback.
