Award Description

This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.

The Mountain Leader Training course will run from Sunday 10.30am and finish by 4pm on Friday. There will be an option to stay in our new pod camp site if you require accommodation. The course will be led by two female Ghyll Head staff Julie Cunningham and Mel Sugden. Julie has over 25 years of teaching and mountain training and is a Mountain Instructor and Mel is a teacher, Cave Instructor and brings a wealth of geology and ecology knowledge to the couse. We look forward to supporting you on your journey through the Mountain Training scheme.

We have access to the south lakes fells on our doorstep and will use the on site teaching room for evening lectures.
