BAIML Workshops - Alpine flowers of the Swiss Alps 

This two-day course will give you confidence to identify alpine flowers and understand the unique ecology of the high mountains. We will identify plants living at a range of altitudes from the high alpine zone to the lower montane environnment and alpine meadows. We will cover species at a range of habitats too giving a complete overview of alpine ecology. The course will also look at the broader environment to develop your understanding of alpine geology, tectonic activity and land use. We will use telecabines to optimise our time in the mountains which allows the opportunity to access the high level vegetation at Hochsaas at around 3000m altitude.

The course is suited to the enthusiast, amateur and anyone keen to know more about alpine vegetation. If you’re an international mountain leader, or aspirant, this course will offer opportunities to further your development through continued professional development points with BAIML and MTA. If you are getting ready for your IML assessment this course is perfect for your preparations. Spaces are limited to maximise the learning outcomes so please enquire early.

The course will be run in a non-residential capacity in the Saas valley in Switzerland. This will allow for you to stay in accommodation to suit your budget and comfort without the requirement to
stay in a mountain hut. We will use the telecabines to optimise getting to the upper regions of the valley, all of which are free if staying locally through their ‘Citizen Pass’ scheme. Enquire with your
accommodation provider. The pace of the course is intentionally leisurely as clients regularly take photos and spend time making notes along the way. Priority will be given to those seeking the
two-day option (although a one-day option is available). The course requires a minimum of 3 participants to run and will take a maximum of 8 participants.
