This is a workshop to review and practice skills for security on steep ground and assisting clients’ needs on this terrain within the remit of the International Mountain Leader award. We will look at identifying passages of steep ground, scenarios that arise with clients and how to best protect yourselves and a client or clients. As a group, we will discuss and practice common scenarios you would encounter and tackle with the limited equipment you carry as an IML.

In order to get the most out of the workshop, all participants should be prepared to share their thoughts, experiences and techniques and thus contribute to the day.

The workshop will be led by Tom Brodie who has been working as an IML for 15 years and has been based in Norway, The Czech Republic and now Switzerland. Tom also holds the MCI award.

On the day, we will take the telecabine and use areas of steep ground in the area nearby. There are marked alpine paths that cross steeper ground and which contain ladders and other fixed iron work. Bring what you would normally carry as an IML leading clients on a route that crosses steeper ground. If you need to borrow anything for some reason do ask.

The workshop costs 35 CHF for BAIML members. Full members and also associate members looking to get their CPD up to date will be given priority. Payment is made on the day.

It will also be necessary to buy a ticket for the telecabine. Meet at 10.15 by the ticket office ready for the off, the next telecabine is at 10.30.

In the evening there will be an opportunity to get together socially.
