About

This cpd workshop will cover micro navigation techniques for hill and moorland terrain, through a session of instruction and practice that will take place in the Bleaklow area of the Dark Peak. The workshop will start in the afternoon, providing an opportunity to review and refresh approaches to the development of navigation strategies and decision making, micro navigation techniques, and a range of simple techniques for maximising the accuracy of navigation with map, compass and observation.

After a few hours of daylight navigation we shall continue our navigation into night time, looking at the extension and application of navigation approaches and techniques for navigation in poor visibility and ultimately looking at night navigation. We shall explore a range of terrain types, including terrain with very subtle landforms that requires confident, accurate navigation.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have had plenty of opportunities to consider and apply a range of different approaches and techniques to achieve simple, accurate and confident navigation under challenging conditions. This workshop should be of particular interest to MTA members preparing for an assessment against any of the MT award schemes, and should provide a helpful refresher for anyone interested in sharpening their navigation by map, compass and observation.
