Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
The Summer Mountain Leader run by Scotch on the Rocks Guiding (SOTRG) is designed for people who want to lead groups in the mountains, hills and moorlands of the UK and Ireland in Summer Conditions. If you love being out in the mountains and want to share your enthusiasm with others, become a Mountain Leader. SOTRG offer a relaxed, open and friendly course, progressively coaching you through the syllabus. With a background in teaching and coaching we will help you develop, hone and polish your personal skills, all the time imparting teaching and coaching techniques you can use when working with others. You will leave inspired, motivated and with a personal action plan of what you need to do before coming forward for assessment, however the support does not end there we can be contacted post course with any Mountain Leader questions.
SOTRG deliver all the walking awards including the Winter Mountain Leader Award. Our Staff are all experienced instructors and have experience of working on all the awards. As well as this we run a range of refresher courses should you feel that these will be useful and run National Navigation Award Scheme courses.
To be eligible for a place on the course you must have registered on the Mountain Leader Scheme.
