Single to multi pitch climbing - the next steps in personal climbing

Taking your climbing from single pitch to multi pitch, looking at the mechanics of multi pitching including route choice, racking, stance management and climbing tactics. All the way through to what to do if things go a bit pear shaped and you need to abseil off. A busy day packed full of new skills and techniques as well as looking at the transferable ones from single pitching and how you incorporate them for tackling longer routes.

Expected learning outcomes:

Guide Book Interpretation.
Route reading.
Racking.
Rope management (including half ropes).
Communication and what to do when you can’t.
Multi pitch belays.
Abseiling off.

Prerequisites:

Have experience of single pitch climbing, be able to tie in with a figure of 8 and lead belay.

Workshop provider:

Samantha Leary is a highly experienced Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI) and MCI with a wealth of climbing experience. She runs her own outdoor pursuits business while also working as a freelance instructor for the two National Mountain Centres in Scotland, England and Wales; Glenmore Lodge and Plas Y Brenin. She is a very active Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor with years of experience of working with clients in the mountains.

Equipment:
Please bring food and drink for the day and appropriate clothing for the weather forecast.

A harness, helmet and rock shoes - if you don't have access to climbing kit please get in touch early as we may be able to help with that.
