WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS

Ian is a qualified Mountain Leader (MLS), registered with the Mountain Training Association. He has hiked and climbed in the UK’s mountains and further afield for over 30 years.

Ian has had a lifelong interest in wildlife and the environment. Through years of observation, study and fieldwork, he has developed in-depth knowledge of the UK’s mountain and upland environments and the flora and fauna which populate them.

Ian is an active conservationist, both through his work for the RSPB in wildlife and habitat conservation and through his role as a litter patrol volunteer in the mountains of the Lake District and the Peak District.

Ian has worked year-round for the RSPB since 2018 as both volunteer and employee, in the hills of Northern England. His role entails carrying out bird surveys and monitoring and protecting endangered birds of prey.

His work for the RSPB also involves environmental monitoring and protection, including high moorland fire-watch and reporting invasive plant species which impact the fragile uplands environment.

In addition to his hands-on conservation work, he also has an in-depth understanding of a wide range of mountain and upland environmental conservation projects, many of which he encounters during his time in the hills. He is also familiar with many of the organisations which run these projects.

Ian is experienced in making presentations, having done so regularly for many years.

He also runs the accredited “wildlife and habitats of the UK's mountains and uplands” CPD workshop for the MTA.
