WORKSHOP CONTENT & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Mountain Training Association have teamed up with the Met Office to provide this specialist weather workshop specifically to support the syllabi of Mountain Training's qualifications as well as enhancing the knowledge of qualified leaders and instructors in their ability to apply information gained from available forecast information, practically whilst planning and dynamically whilst out in the hills and mountains.
This is an online session and will comprise of two parts;
Prior to the event you will receive an invitation to access the Met Office online learning portal and you will also receive an invitation to attend the trainer-led webinar.
The Met Office will be using an online platform to host their webinar and will be in touch to help you register for the platform in due course.

Morning:
09.15 - 09.45 - Introductions
Overview of the course aims and objectives and some brief introductions.
09.45 - 10.15 - Mountain weather information
An opportunity to discuss as a group where you get your Mountain Weather Information from.
10.15 - 10.30 - Break
10.30 - 12.00 - Weather charts
This session will build on what you've learnt from the online material, including...
- A look at how weather charts can complement the mountain forecasts to provide a 'big picture' of the weather.
- A practical exercise to practise using weather charts in relation to the mountain environment.
Afternoon:
13.00 - 13.30 - Go through Chart exercise
13.30 - 14.30 - How mountains modify the weather
How mountains can affect the wind, temperature, cloud and precipitation.
A look at weather scenarios that can lead to hazardous conditions in the mountains.
14.30 - 14.45 - Break
14.45 - 15.15 - Route planning exercise
A short exercise that involves applying what you have learnt when planning a day in the hills.
15.15 - 16.00 - Reading the sky
How you can find out what the current weather is telling us about the atmosphere and making short term predictions from observations around you.
16.00 - 16.15 - Final Q&A and closing comments
A final chance to ask any further questions.
WORKSHOP PROVIDER CREDENTIALS
The workshop is being run by professional Met Office trainers.
CANCELLATION PROCEDURE:
This workshop needs a minimum of 4 bookings to run. Attendees will be notified of cancellations or changes to the workshop 2 weeks before the date of the workshop. Attendees will receive a full refund.
If you are unable to attend the workshop, if cancellations are received up to 6 weeks before the workshop you will receive a full refund; less than 6 weeks but more than 4 weeks before the course: 50% refund; less than 4 weeks before the course date: no refund will be issued.
