Walking

Summary

I have logged very few days using UKC, however I have completed many days working as an ML. Working as a teacher of outdoor education based in the Howgills, I spent 6 years with at least one day per week teaching hillwalking and navigation in either the Howgill Fells or the Eastern lake District (Haweswater Fells). I also led backpacking trips including several overnight trips up Scafell Pike (with overnight camp at Sprinkling Tarn before heading up to Scafell Pike the next day and down the corridor route), day walks in the Langdale Pikes and in the Coniston Fells. In Scotland, on more extended trips, personal highlights include leading trips across Knoydart from Loch Arkaig to Inverie, then taking the ferry back to Mallaig, taking students Up the big 3 of Torridon (Liathach, Beinn Eighe and Beinn Alligin), walking students in to remote bothies on South Uist after climbing Hecla and leading school groups up to the CIC hut before climbing Ben Nevis via the CMD Arete the following day. Recent days freelancing include Helvellyn via Striding and Swirral Edge, Belncathra via Sharp Edge and Hall's Fell Ridge, Loughrigg, High Street from Haweswater and several Scafell Pike trips for 3 peaks challenges.

Personally, I spend my time in the hills fell running, and have completed several ultra distance events in Scotland and the Lake District (Glencoe Skyline, Lake District Skyrace, Old County Tops, Lakes 3000s) in addition to classic races such as Langdale Fell race, Ennerdale Horseshoe, Ring of Steall race etc.
