Winter Walking

Summary

The vast majority of my winter walking has been completed in the Lake District, with classic loops such as the Helvellyn Edges and Sharp Edge on Blencathra. I have completed more than 40 days of winter climbing in Scotland, often involving long winter walk-ins and navigation in poor conditions. In the Lake District, I continue fell running throughout the winter, often in full winter conditions requiring the use of microspikes and good navigation.

My other main winter experience in the British hills is ski touring, with personal highlights being tours in the Monadliath, Cairngorms, Arrochar Alps, Lochaber. My favourite Scottish day on skis so far is Ben Wyvis in a cloud inversion, skinning from the carpark, transitioning to crampons to ascend icy slopes, then skiing soft snow all the way back to the care in the sunshine.
