Description

DATE 23/06/16
ACTIVITY
Walking and Rock Climbing
REGION
Scotland
AREA
Cairngorms
DESCRIPTION OF ROUTE:
We got dropped off just outside of braemar and started making our way along the long approch to Ben Avon - Leabaidh an Daimh Bhuidhe. This walk took us 6hrs casually making our way along the glen and up onto the top. Once we reached The Sneck we dropped our bags and made our way to the summit. When we returned to our bags we kitted up for the Climb, we climbed up the cumming crofton route ( mitre Ridge) we stared climbing at 6 and reached the top of the route just after 21:00hrs. We then returned to our bags grabbed something to eat and made our way up to the summit of Beinn a`Bhuird North Top. We then headed across the plateau and reached the Hutchison memorial bothy at 2am. The walk across was pleasant it never got pitch black but the cloud occasionally rolled across which made navigation tricky.

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
