Description

The classic route along Crib Goch and Garnedd Ugain. The latter completed all of the 3,000ft+ summits in the UK for me :-D The inevitable trudge up Snowdon on the M62 Llanberis track. From here we took the Watkins path down to where we`d strategically left a car.
I was leading a friend with limited navigation skills on this route. He also had limited scrambling experience or experience of knife-edge ridges. He wanted to do the Aonach Eagach with me in a few weeks so this seemed like a good opportunity to diversify a good walk to/from Snowdon with some variety and test out my leadership on Crib Goch.
I planned and led the dayTraditional navigation skills were not really required, apart from coming off Snowdon and out of the clag. There are actually so many paths I need to check which was the right one and where to turn off.UK hillsknowledge was increased and skills practised in terms of leadership in Snowdonia which is not an area I'm familiar with.attention was paid to safety on the scramble - even before we set off to ensure the weather was going to be good and minimal wind. I'd not have done the route with someone unfamiliar to such ridges had there been wet rock or a strong wind.five hours or more journey timeadverse conditions wasn't encountered beyond some disappointing clag between 950-1000m

Area : Snowdon Massif
