Description

08.30 - 15.30, 14.5km, 700m.
Longthwaite YH, Stonethwaite, Eagle Crag (direct route), Sergeant’s Crag, contoured below Long Crag to Greenup Edge, Ullscarf, High Sadle, Low Saddle, Dock Tarn, Stonethwaite, Longthwaite. Cloud base 800m at start, dropping to 500m by late morning. Visibility further reduced by snow fall. Freezing at valley level. Another long day with some pathless terrain making it harder. Visibility reduced from Greenup Edge when the cloud dropped and the snow got heavier. Had hoped to do Great Crag at the end but Nicky had had enough by then and we needed to head down. I messed up at the start being on the west side of Stonethwaite Beck which meant we had to cross Langstrath Beck on icy rocks, Nicky not impressed!

Area : Central Fells

The Vale of Keswick, provides separation from the Northern Fells whilst to the west runs the long valley of Borrowdale. The parallel eastern boundary is created by Thirlmere and the St Johns in the Vale. Grasmere to Windermere forms the remainder of the eastern boundary. In the west, Stake Pass descends into Great Langdale.
