Description

3km, 165m + 9.5km, 500m + 6.6km 400m + 1km, 200m + 3.5km, 280m + 1.7km, 70m = 25.3km, 1620m.
Overcast initially on the 5th, later clear and sunny. Castle Crag from Quayfoot Quarry + Darling How parking (B5292), Whinlatter, Ullster Hill, Barf, Lord’s Seat, Broom Fell, Darling How + Thackthwaight, Lowfell, Fellbarrow, Thackthwaight + Rannerdale Knotts from spot height 101 +Catbells from Skelgill + Latrigg from car park. Another Wainwright trip. Sapphire was very confused leaving the car on the 4th at 10.30pm to go for a walk up Castle Crag – found a ‘swim test doggie’ very useful crossing the Derwent. On the move again just before 7am having slept in the car, and back down by 10.30am. The walk up Lowfell and Fellbarrow felt a long way maybe because I’d left the map in the car! Had lunch by Crummock Water and a pint of shandy in the Bridge hotel after Rannerdale and bottled out of the fells soulth of Loweswater. It would have been a very long and late day otherwise. On 48 new Wainwrights in my 51st year, and out of time!

Area : North Western Fells

Essentially this area is encompassed by Lakes of Bassenthwaite, Derwent Water, Buttermere and Crummock Water with the southern boundary being the Honister Pass
