Description

08.40 - 12.30, 7km, 620m.
Cloud base 700m, freezing level 1100m, heavy rain late morning, strong winds on summit. 4 Reaseheath students. Coire cas car park, White Lady Sheiling, Fiacaill a Choire Chais, 1141m, Cairn Gorm, Ptarmigan, Sron an Aonaich, car park. Not a nice day. Talked at White Lady about taking early belays and distance for intended legs of a route. Hard going up to the summit due to wind and substantial rime ice. I took over going over the top!

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
