Description

10.15 - 18.30, 24.7km, 1240m. Glenmore, Cairngorms, Scotland.
Scattered cloud above 1500m, winds light to moderate, snow at all levels, thawing below 700m. Trefor Beese, Gareth, and myself. Glenmore Lodge, Bynack Stable, Bynack Beg, Bynack More, A’ Choinneach, The Saddle, Ptarmigan cafe, Coire na Ciste car park, Loch Morlich campsite. Didn’t feel very well from Bynack More onwards. Suffered from a shortness of breath like an asthma attack and found that I could not maintain a steady pace, Trefor and I were both getting very worried and were glad to get up to the café after numerous stops to regulate breathing. Camped at Loch Morlich, but had to evacuate to the toilet block that night due to storm force winds tearing the tent. Gave up due to severe forecast and headed home in morning!

Area : The Cairngorms

The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
