16.5km, 1130m. Coniston, Lake District.
Clear, very cold, patches of snow and ice. Lots of rime ice. Two school friends and I. Copper Mines YH, Old Man of Coniston via Low Water, Brim Fell, Swirl How, Wetherlam, Tilberthwaite Gill, Slater Bridge, Little Langdale, Elterwater YH. Watched the sun rise through a temperature inversion, the cloud burnished gold, light refracted by ice crystals everywhere, streams stilled behind frozen dams.

Area : Southern Fells (Scafell Pike)

From the Esk Valley all the way across to Kendal and the M6. Includes Coniston area as far north as Little Langdale, Wrynose and Hardknott Pass.
