Description

22.5km, 1830m. 07.15 - 19.00.
Rain, sleet and snow showers doing the day. Lying snow above 900m, Sgurr nan Clach Geala looked quite wintery but no need for an ice axe or crampons. A382 GR162760 07.15, A`Chailleach 10.15, Toman Coinnich 11.00, Sgurr Breac 11.35, bealach GR172705 lunch 12.30, col GR182706 rest 13.40, Sgurr nan Each 14.20, Sgurr nan Clach Geala 15.35, Meall a`Chrasgaidh 16.30, A382 GR180769 19.00. I was hoping to stay high and camp so I was carrying a lot of extra kit. In the end I bugged out due to the weather and a deteriorating forecast overnight. Getting down from Meall a`Chrasgaidh was a mare. Dropped off north-east to get out of the wind and snow aiming for the path marks on the map. The path doesn`t exist so it was a slog through the heather in the dark with a load. If I`d known the effort coming down entailed I would have been tempted to camp.

Area : Loch Maree to Loch Broom and The Fannaichs

This area contains four main sub-regions: An Teallach, The Fannaichs, Kinlochewe & Letterewe. The highest Munro is Sgurr Mor, part of The Fannaichs range, at a height of 1110m. The impressive Slioch (981m), although not the tallest, is described by the SMC Munros Guide as being ‘one of the great sights of the Northern Highlands’ and well worth a visit. This area sits to the north of the A832 and is almost completely devoid of human habitation.
