Description

Big day out in fairly testing conditions, with lots of unconsolidated snow lying above 400m, varying in depth between calf to knee deep. Although it was a persona hillwalking day, I opted to break trail throughout the day for my two companions, who were struggling for fitness a bit. We made slower progress than I`d hoped, and ended up coming off the hill in the dark, with the descent into Coirean Riabhach requiring precise micro-nav to find a way down through the crags and bluffs.
Realised I`d made a blunder in planner, by not agreeing a `late back` time with my wife, and ended up having to force march the party back to the car to make sure our lateness didn`t trigger an MR callout.

Area : Glen Etive to Glen Lochy

This is the area south of Buachaille Etive Mor as far as the A85 (Tyndrum to Oban road). It includes the peaks around the Glencoe Ski Centre (Creise and Meall a’Bhuiridh) alongside eleven other Munros and many other peaks above 600m. Highlights such as Ben Cruachan (1126m) and Stob Ghabhar (1090) remind all-comers that this is an area of high mountains and low glens.
