Sunny day on the Cairngorms. Sparse snow cover but managed to have enough crampon and axe action for it to qualify as a non-QMD winter day.
Started at Cairngorm Mountain car park and headed up Coire an t-Sneachda. Grad I and II north gullies looked patchy and suspected that the routes would be harder as a result. Decided to go up the Goat Track to the plateau. Then continued towards the summit of Stob Coire An t-Sneachda and back to the car park down the broad Fiacaill a Choire Chais ridge.
Area :
The Cairngorms
The Cairngorms are ‘a little piece of the arctic in Scotland’ according to the SMC Munros Guide and the area contains many of the tallest peaks in the East Highlands. Ben Macdui (1309m), Cairn Gorm (1244m) and Braeriach (1296) are probably three of the better known and the whole area is full of steep corries and high plateaux. Access to the mountains is typically from Aviemore or Braemar.
