Description

I organised a walk up Schiehallion for a Meetup group. There were about 20 people on this walk. I had climbed the mountain before, as a child about 45 years before, so I was careful to study the route in advance of the walk.
Unfortunately the weather was very misty the whole day from about 300m up. There were some very fast walkers in the group, who sped on ahead, but they waited for me at a point at about 850m where the route seemed to branch off in two directions. Visibility was very poor, but I was able to pinpoint the correct route quite easily using my map and compass, and we got to the summit, some about 15 minutes ahead of others. I waited back for a couple of people who were finding it very difficult to walk across the boulders near the summit.
On the way down, one of the fastest walkers raced ahead of the rest of us and got a bit lost. He was able to find his way back by phoning us.
In the end most people seemed to enjoy the day.

Area : Bridge Of Orchy (Beinn A'chreachain) To Schiehallion

The mountains immediately to the south of Loch Rannoch and to the north of Glen Lyon stretch all the way from Schiehallion (1083m), the birthplace of Charles Hutton’s contour lines, to Beinn Dorain (1076m) near the Bridge of Orchy. There are twelve Munros and a number of other peaks (above 800m) in the mountains list. The peaks to the south of Glen Lyon are included in the Glen Lyon to Glen Dochart & Loch Tay area.
